Paduvalkayi Kootu


INGREDIENTS:
1 cup chopped snakegourd/ paduvalkayi/ poddale
1/4 cup boiled moon dal
Salt to taste

FOR THE MASALA :
In 1 tsp oil roast 3-4 red chillies,2 tsp urad dal,1 tsp sesame seeds,1/2 tsp turmeric pdr  and 4 methi seeds till brown colour and grind with 1/4 cup grated fresh coconut into a fine paste and keep aside

FOR THE TEMPERING:
2 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard
1 sprig of curry leaves
1 broken red chilli
pinch of hing

PROCEDURE:

  • Scrape the outer skin of snakegourd,wash and cut into medium pieces
  • Cook with little salt and transfer in a bowl with boiled moong dal
  • Add the masala and boil for 5-10 mins
  • Temper with the ingredients!!
  • Serve hot with rice!!!
