Cabbage Kootu


INGREDIENTS:
3 cups chopped cabbage/ pattha gobi
3/4 cup soaked chana dal/ bengal gram
1/2 tsp turmeric
2 tsp lemon juice
Salt to taste

TO BE GROUND TO COARSE PASTE:
3/4 cup grated fresh coconut
2 tsp jeera/ cumin seeds
3-4 green chillies

FOR THE TEMPERING:
4tsp oil
1 tsp mustard
Pinch of hing pdr
2sprigs of curry leaves
1/2 tsp turmeric pdr
2 broken red chillies

PROCEDURE:

  • Pressure cook chopped cabbage with chana dal,salt ,turmeric pdr and very little water only for 2 whistles(dont overcook)
  • In a pan heat oil ,add the tempering ingredients and fry for 2 mins
  • Add the masala and fry for 2 mins
  • Add boiled dal and cabbage mixture,lemon juice,salt to taste toss well
  • Serve hot with dal and rasam !!!
