Padengi Bajil /Sprouted green gram with poha upkari
Padengi bajil / Mooga usli poha chutney /Sprouted moong usli with masala poha is another Mangalorian breakfast speciality. this is a very nutritious,wholesome,tasty and healthy combo.The other popular combos of Mangalorian breakfast are Kadle bajil/ Chana usli with poha,Bajl sajjige/ Poha with upma.
INGREDIENTS FOR PADENGI:
1 cup sprouted moong/ green gram
3 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard
1 sprig of curry leaf
3 finely chopped green chillies
1/2 tsp hing/ asafoetida
2 tblsp grated fresh coconut
Salt to taste
PROCEDURE:
- Heat oil in a pan ,add mustard,when it starts crackling add curry leaves,green chillies and fry for a minute
- Add hing,fry for a second,followed by boiled green gram ,salt to taste ,grated coconut and mix well
- And your green gram usli is ready to serve
- Don't overcook the green gram and boil it with minimum water.
POHA UPKARI INGREDIENTS:
2 cups fresh grated coconut (use white part only)
1 1/2 cups poha /beaten rice)
Salt to taste
For masala:
2 tsp coriander seeds/dania
1 tsp cumin seeds/jeera
1 green chilli
3-4 byadgi red chillies
jaggery or sugar to taste
salt to taste
Crush these ingredients .
For tempering:
3 tsp oil
2 tsp mustard
1 sprig of curry leaves
PROCEDURE:
2 cups fresh grated coconut (use white part only)

- In a bowl mix coconut and the masala
- Add the tempering
- Mix poha and serve
