Bangude Pulimunchi/ Mackerel fish curry


Pulimunchi is very popular in and around Mangaluru, my hometown. As the name itself says it is a tangy ,spicy fish curry,whch tingle your taste buds. You can substitute mackerel with chicken or prawns.this spicy curry goes well with hot boiled rice.

INGREDIENTS:
4 nos Mackerel fish
8 garlic cloves crushed
2 sprigs of fresh curry leaves
1/2 tsp turmeric pdr
Salt to taste
3 tblsp coconut oil

FOR THE MASALA PASTE:
8 byadgi red chillies soaked in warm water for 10 mins
1 tsp coriander seeds/ daniya
1/2 tsp jeera/ cumin seeds 5 meti/ fenugreek seeds 
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
Gooseberry size tamarind
Dry roast daniya,jeera,meti,mustard  and grind it with soaked red chillies,tamarind into a fine paste

PROCEDURE:

  • Heat oil in a pan, curry leaves and crushed garlic in the oil till you get nice aroma
  • Now add the ground pasteand fry until oil leaves the sides of the pan
  • Add salt to taste,place the cleaned fish pieces,little water and cook till the fish is cooked
  • Serve hot with rice,idli or dosa.
