Chakkuli Tov ve / Dalithoy
Chakkuli tovve / dali thoy is a very popular combo in Udupi. Crispy chaklis dunked in hot dal tastes awesome.Tried this for the first time and I liked it very much.
INGREDIENTS FOR TOVVE:
1 cup toor dal /Arhar dal
2-3 green chillies slit
Generous amount of hing/ asafoetida
Salt to taste
FOR THE TEMPERING:
3 tsp oil or ghee
2 tsp mustard
curry leaves
3 broken red chillies
PROCEDURE:
- Wash and soak dal in 2 cups water for 20 mins
- Put the dal,green chillies in cooker with water and cook it for 3-4 whistles or till it is cooked well
- Transfer the cooked dal n a vessel, hing add salt to taste,water if needed
- Make it boil for 5 mins,add the tempering with the ingredients mentioned
- Serve hot with rice.
INGREDIENTS FOR CHAKLI:
2 cups rice flour
1/4 cup besan/ chickpea flour
3 tblsp roasted dal /putani/ hurigadale powder
2 1/2 tblsp butter
Salt to taste
1 tsp chilli pdr
2 tblsp white til/ sesame seeds
Oil for frying
PROCEDURE:
1/4 cup besan/ chickpea flour

PROCEDURE:
- Take rice flour,besan,putani pdr,salt,til and sesame seeds in a bowl,mix well
- Add the butter and again mix,add water and make a soft dough
- Make chaklis,on a plastic sheet or paper and deep fry on a medium flame till it turns golden brown and crisp
- Store in an airtight container once it comes to room temperature
How to serve:
Put tovve / Dal in a serving bowl,break the chaklis and put in it and serve immediately.
