Radish leaves pappu (Andhra style dal )



INGREDIENTS: 
1cup toor dal
1.25 cups water to cook dal
2 cups finely chopped tender radish leaves
1 large onion thinly sliced
1 chopped tomato
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
Chopped coriander leaves
Salt to taste

FOR THE TEMPERING:
4tsp ghee
1 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp jeera
curry leaves
Pinch of hing
Generous amount of turmeric powder
5-6 Methi seeds
1 broken red chilli
5-6 crushed garlic cloves

PROCEDURE:

  • Pressure cook dal and radish leaves with water for 2-3 whistles,once the prssure releases mash it well
  • Soak tamarind in water
  • Heat ghee in a vessel add mustard,when it starts crackling add hing,methi seeds,jeera and red chilli
  • Add onions and saute till they are half done
  • Add chopped tomatoes,green chillies ,turmeric powder and salt
  • Saute till tomatoes becomes mushy
  • Add red chilli powder and fry for a minute
  • Add the tamarind pulp,1 cup water ,when it comes to boiladd mashed dal and greens adjust the salt
  • Bring it to boil and simmer for 2 mins
  • Add coriander leaves and serve hot with rice ,ghee and papad.
