Batata Vada with Garlic chutney


3 boiled, peeled potatoes
3 green chillies
1 tsp mustard
1/4 tsp asafoetida powder
8-10 curry leaves
crushed ginger garlic 1 tsp(optional
2 tsp oil +  oil for frying
1/4 tsp turmeric powder(haldi)
Salt to taste

For the outer covering:
1 cup bengal gram flour (besan)
2 tsp rice flour
1/2 tsp chilli powder
salt to taste
pinch of cooking soda


  • In 2 tsp oil temper all the ingredients and mix boiled , mashed potatoes 
  • Make the batter with the above ingredients with little water (medium thick )
  • Make lemon size balls, dip in batter and deep fry
  • Serve with any chutney of your choice
Garlic chutney:

Take 1/2 cup grated dry coconut, 8 garlic cloves, salt and chilli powder to taste  and grind this.
