Dal Tadka


1 cup toor dal (yellow pigeon peas)
2 tomatoes
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp asafoetida powder
3 tsp ghee
2 tsp cumin seeds(jeera)
2 tsp chilli powder
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves


  • Cook dal with grated tomatoes, turmeric , asafoetida powder and  2 cups of water
  • Boil the cooked dal with salt to taste 
  • In kadai take ghee, add jeera,chilli powder and swithch off the gas
  • Add this tempering to the boiled dal and garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves
  • Serve hot with phulkas
