Chana dal payasam with jackfruit

1/2 cup chana dal/ split bengal gram
1/2 cup jaggery / or to taste
1 cup fresh grated coconut
2 tsp rice pdr
1/2 cup ripe jackfruit cut into chunks
Cashews and raisinsto taste
1 tsp cardamom pdr


  • Dry roast chana dal in a pan till nice aroma comes
  • Wash the dal and cook in cooker adding 1.5 cups of water ,for 3-4 whistles or till the dal is cooked (dont over cook dal)
  • Meanwhile grind the coconut in mixer into a fine paste
  • Seive it through a strainer and squeeze all the thick milk from it and keep aside
  • Grind the seived coconut again with 1/2 cup water and take the second extract (thin milk)
  • Transfer the cooked dal in a vessel,add the thin coconut milk and jackfruit pieces 
  • Cook till the jackfruit is cooked,add jaggery and cook till it melts
  • Mix the rice flour in lil water ,make a paste and add it to the dal
  • Add the thick milk,nuts n raisins to the dal and allow it to boil
  • Garnish with cardamom powder and serve hot !!!
