Gujje Huli / Raw jackfruit Sambar



INGREDIENTS:
2 cups raw jackfruit cut into chunks
1/2 turmeric pdr / haldi
Salt to taste

FOR THE MASALA PASTE:
1/2 cup fresh coconut gratings
4 red chillies
2 tsp dania / coriander seeds
2 tsp jeera/ cumin seeds
6 garlic cloes
chickpea size tamarind
1/2 tsp oil
In a pan put oil and dry dania, jeera and red chillies, till you get nice aroma and it turns light brown. Grind it with coconut gratings, tamarind and garlic cloves. Make a fine paste and keep aside

FOR THE TEMPERING:
4 tsp oil
2 tsp mustard
1 sprig of curry leaves
2 red chilli es cut into bits

PROCEDURE:
  • Wash and cook jackfruit chunks with half cup water, 1 tsp salt and turmeric pdr, in cooker for 2- 3 whistles
  • Put the boiled chunks in a vessel, add the masala  and little water and adjust the consistency according to your taste
  • Let it boil for 10 mins, turn off the flame 
  • Temper with the ingredients metioned above
  • Serve hot with hot rice and papad.
