Bisi Bele Bhaat (pressure cooker method)


Bisi bele bhaat is a traditional spicy ricee dish of Karnataka. This means HOT LENTIL RICE.This is a combination of rice ,dal, and veggies with spicy masala. You can have this with potato chips or khara boondi. and fresh ghee .

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup rice
1/2 cup toor dal
5 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp turmeric powder(haldi)
2 tsp cashew nuts or peanuts
2 tsp chana dal
8-10 curry leaves
1/2 tsp assafoetida powder(hing)
3 tsp bisibele bhaat powder
2 chopped tomato
corriander leaves for garnishing
2 cups of chopped veggies like beans,carrot,aalu,and green peas

PROCEDURE:


  • In cooker take oil ,add mustard , when it starts popping add haldi, hing,curry leaves
  • Add nuts, chanadal ,fry till light brown
  • Add chopped tomato and fry till it becomes smooth 
  • Put bhaat powder, cut veggies , washed rice and toor dal 
  • Mix well, add salt to taste,4 cups water and close the lid
  • After 2 whistles switch off the gas
  • Garnish with fresh ghee and corriander leaves 
  • Serve hot with potato wafers or khara boondi
