Gonva Kano Chana dal Khichidi



This is a traditional Konkani delicacy, mostly prepared during festival days.It is served hot  in a bowl with fresh ghee.You can use sugar or jaggery.Gonva kano is also called broken wheat or daliya.It can be prepared with Moong dal(spliit moong dal ) and rice also.

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup broken wheat/daliya
1/2 cup chana dal(bengal gram)
1 cup sugar
1.5 cups fresh grated coconut (only white part)
2 tsp cardamom powder
Cashewnuts,raisins and almonds for garnishing
3 tsp ghee

PROCEDURE:

  • Dry roast both daliya and dal separately for 10 minutes and cook in a cooker with 3 cups of water for 4-5 whistles or till it becomes soft
  • Transfer it in a kadayi ,add sugar ,coconut , and make it boil for 10- 15 minutes and till it comes to semi solid  consistency.
  • Add cardamom powder,nuts and ghee and mix well 
  • Serve hot with fresh ghee.
