Heerekayi Kootu


Heere Kayi which is also called Ghosale in konkani n Ridgegourd in English.This is a very simple side dish for rice. Yan try this with other veggies like cabbage,beans,snakegourd also.

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup washed,peeled ,ridgegourd pieces
1/4 cup boiled moong dal
Salt to taste

For the masala:
1/2 cup fresh grated coconut
2 green chillies
1 tsp jeera/cumin seeds
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Little tamarind
Grind this to a smooth paste and keep aside

For tempering;
2 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard
curry leaves
1 tsp chana dal/bengal gram
1 tsp urad dal/white lentil
Lil hing/asafoetida
2 red chillies broken

PROCEDURE:

  • Take boiled moong dal and boiled ridgegourd pieces in a vessel ,add salt ,masala paste and make it boil
  • Add the tempering and serve hot with rice
