Tomato Pappu

Tomato Pappu is a very simple and easy Andhra style dal which goes well with hot rice!! Dal is called PAPPU in Andhra language Telugu!! This is a spicy, tangy dal with tomato  ,a side dish for rice !!

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup toor dal / Split pigeon peas
11/2 to 2 cups water
2 chopped tomatoes
Salt to taste
Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing
2 tsp ghee for serving 

FOR TEMPERING:
3tsp oil
1 tsp mustard
2 slit green chillies
2 broken dry red chillies
2 tsp cumn seeds/jeera
1/2 tsp turmeric pdr/haldi
1/2 tsp red chilli pdr
8 garlic cloves crushed or chopped
1 sprig of curry leaves
2 tblsp chopped onion

PROCEDURE:
  • Soak dal for 20 mins in water and cook with chopped tomato  in cooker
  • Tranfer it in a vessel ,add salt to taste and boil it for 5-10 mins
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard,when it crackles add,curry leaves,garlic cloves and fry till brown in colour
  • Add the remaining ingredients one by one ,fry till onion becomes brown
  • Put the tempering on dal ,garnish with ghee and chopped coriander leaves 
  • Serve hot with rice ,papad and enjoy.........
