Sanna Khotto


Sanna Khotto is a traditional Konkani dish . This is a  rice and lentil dumplings jackfruit leaves baskets. Steaming in jackfruit leaves baskets gives it a nice flavour. If you dont g et jackfruit leaves then you can steam it in idli moulds or in banana leaves . you can substitute cabbage with methi leaves,palak,drumstick leaves  or colocasia leaves. If you dont eat onion then add only hing /asafortida and prepare this.

INGREDIENTS:
1/4 cup toor dal
1/2 cup dosa rice
1 cup fresh grated coconut
1/2 cup chopped onion1/4 cup chopped cabbage
salt to taste
lil. tamarind
4-5 roasted red chillies(roast dry chillies in 1/2 tsp oil)

PROCEDURE:
  • Soak rice and dal in water for 1 hour 
  • In mixer first grind coconut,salt,tamarind,red chillies to a fine paste
  • Then add rice and dal without water and grind to  a lil coarse paste
  • Consistency should be lil thicker than idli batter
  • Transfer it into a bowl and add chopped onion and cabbage
  • Put the batter in idli mould or jackfruit leaves baskets and steam it for 20- 25 mins
  • Serve hot with coconut oil
