Onion Butthi


Butthi is a typical Konkani dish . This is a coconut based  semi dry dish with  onion tadka. Normally we use onion in this dish ,but here I've sbstituted it with shallots/sambar onion !! Tastes wonderful.You can use other veggies too,like gobi,cabbage,mushrooms..

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup peeled sambar onions/shallots
2  finely chopped onions(normal onion)
6 tsp oil
salt to taste

FOR THE MASALA PASTE:
3/4 cup grated fresh coconut
1/2 tsp coriander /daniya seeds
little tamarind
3-4 red chillies roasted in lil oil
Grind the above ingredients into a paste (little coarse)

PROCEDURE:

  • In a kadai heat oil and fry the chopped onions till light brown in colour
  • Add the shallots ,salt and fry till it is cooked
  • Add the masala and 1/2 cup water
  • Boil well and serve hot with rice and dal
