HULI IS NOTHING BUT OUR SAMBAR OR KOLOMBO  ,WITHA LITTLE DIFFERENCE IN TASTE...THIS IS MOSTLY  PREPARED BY KANNADA BRAHMINS OF KARNATAKA...SOME PEOPLE ADD LAVANG,DALCHINI ALSO ,BUT AS WE DONT LIKE IT I TRIED THIS VERSION ...HOPE ALL OF YOU LIKE THIS....

INGREDIENTS:
2 cups chana dal/ bengal gram 
1 cup urad dal /skinless split white lentils
4 cups dhaniya seeds/ coriander seeds
1/2 cup jeera/cumin seeds
1/4 cup methi/fenugreek seeds
7-8  cups dry  red chillies or depending upon your taste
1 cup kadipatta/ curry leaves
1 tsp hing/asafoetida

PROCEDURE:

  • Dry roast all the above ingredients separately in a pan on a medium flame 
  • Blend all the ingredients  into a fine powder 
  • When it comes to room temperature store in an airtight container
