Malabar Chemmeen Curry

250 gms cleaned ,deveined prawns
1/4 cup curds
Salt to taste
2 tblsp oil
1 sprig of curry leaf
2 finely chopped onion
1/2 inch chopped ginger
2 tsp red chilli pdr
1 tsp coriander pdr
1/2 tsp turmeric pdr
1/4 cup tomato puree
1/2 cup coconut milk


  • Marinate the prawns with salt and curds ,keep for 15 mins
  • Heat oil in a pan,add curry leaves , chopped ginger and fry for 2 mins
  • Add onions chopped and fry until golden brown
  • Add chilli pdr, coriander pdr and turmeric pdr and fry for 2 mins
  • Add the tomato puree and fry again for 5 mins
  • Now put the marinated prawns and lil water ,cook  for 10 mins covered with a lid
  • Now simmer the gas and add the coconut milk and give a quick boil for only 2 mins and switch off the gas
  • Serve wirh hot rice or any pulav or fried rice!!!
