Adraki Methi Malai Paneer

Special thanks to my FB friend Shamala Bhat for this wonderful recipe !!

150 gms paneer cut into cubes
1 cup finely chopped methi/fenugreek leaves
1 tblsp grated ginger
3 cloves garlic
2 medium sized onions chopped
2 medium sized tomatoes chopped
2 green chillies chopped
2 tsp coriander/ dania pdr
1 tsp red chilli pdr
1/2 tsp garam masala pdr
1/2 tsp turmeric pdr
Salt to taste
1 bay leaf
3 tblsp ghee
1 tsp jeera/ cumin seeds
a pinch of hing/asafoetida
1/2 cup milk
4-5 cashew nuts
3/4 cup water


  • Heat 2 tblsp ghee in a pan ,add jeera,hing and bay leaf
  • When it splutters add garlic n green chillies chopped
  • Saute till garlic turns brown,add onions,salt and ginger
  • cook till onions are light brown,add all spice powders except garam masala
  • Add tomatoes and fry till oil leaves the sides
  • Discard the bay leaf,and grind the masala with cashew nuts n milk once it is cooled
  • In same pan add the remaining ghee,put chopped methi leaves,salt and fry for 5 mins
  • Now add the ground paste to methi and saute for 5 mins
  • Bring it to boil and lower the flame and cook till the raw smell goes off
  • Add paneer cubes,garam masala and cook for 5mins
  • Garnish with ginger juliennes and serve hot with naan, roti or ghee rice  n enjoy!!!
