Tomato Rasam

Special thanks to my friend Suphala Shenoy for this  wonderful rasam recipe!!!
1/4 boiled toor dal
2 chopped tomatoes
2 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp pepper corns
1 lemon sized tamarind soaked in water
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp turmeric pdr
1 tsp asafoetida/ hing pdr
2 tsp rasam pdr
1 sprig curry leaf
2 tsp ghee
1 tsp mustard
chopped coriander leaves


  • Take 4-5 cups water in a vessel,put the tamarind pulp,turmeric pdr and hing
  • Boil it for5 mins and then add chopped tomatoes,curry leaves and rasam pdr
  • Cook till tomatoes become soft ,add cooked dal n mix well
  • Boil for another 10 mins and add chopped coriander leaves and switch off the gas
  • Coarsely grind cumin seeds and pepper corns
  • Take ghee in a pan ,put mustard,when it crackles add pepper,cumin pdr and remove from the flame
  • Pour the tadka into the rasam and serve hot with hot rice!!!
