Kaalan


Thanks to my FB friend Archana Vinay for this yummy Kerala delicacy !!
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup sooran / yam cut into cubes
1 raw banana ,peeled n cut into cubes
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp turmeric pdr
1/2 tsp red chilli pdr
1/2 tsp pepper pdr
1/2 cup curds

FOR THE MASALA PASTE:
1/2 cup fresh grated coconut
2 green chillies
1/2 tsp jeera/ cumin seeds
1/4 cup curds 
Grind the above ingredients into a fine paste and keep aside

FOR TEMPERING:
2 tsp coconut oil/ any oil of your choice
1 tsp mustard
2 broken red chillies
1 sprig of curry leaves

PROCEDURE:

  • Cook sooran and banana cubes with salt,turmeric pdr,pepper pdr and chilli pdr in 1/2 cup water 
  • Transfer the cooked veggies in a vessel ,add the masala paste and  1/2 cup beaten curds,and little roasted methi pdr 
  • Mix well ,check for seasoning and consistency 
  • No need to boil much
  • Temper with the mentioned ingredients 
  • Serve hot with hot rice
NOTE: Actually  you have to use nendrabale ,but I used raw banana
You can add little sugar
