Avarekaalu Menthya Bhaat


INGREDIENTS:
1 cup rice
2 small onions sliced
5-6 tsp ghee or oil
1/2 cup chopped methi/fenugreek leaves
1/4 cup avarekaalu/ hyacinth beans
2 tsp lemo juice
1/2 tsp turmeric pdr
1 tsp garam masala
Salt to taste
Chopped coriander leaves

FOR THE MASALA PASTE:
2 cloves/lavang
small piece of cinnamon/dalchini
1 tsp cumin seeds/ jeera
1/2 inch ginger piece
5 garlic cloves
1/4 cup coriander leaves
Grind the above ingredients into a fine paste

PROCEDURE:

  • Wash and soak rice in water for 20 mins
  •  In cooker heat oil, saute onion slices till they turn pinkish
  • Add the masala paste and fry till raw smell goes
  • Drop in chopped methi leaves and fry for 5 mins
  • Put the hyacinth beans,turmeric pdr,garam masala pdr,and stir for a minute
  • Drain water from the rice and add to it,fry for 5 mins
  • Add salt to taste,lemon juice and 2 cups water,mix well and close the lid
  • Cook for 2-3 whistles,once the steam is released  open the lid and mix gently
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with raita of your choice !!!
