Bhindi ka Saalan


INGREDIENTS:
250 gms bhindi / Lady's fingers/ okra
6 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard
Curry leaves
1 finely chopped onion
1/2 tsp tamarind paste
1/2 tsp turmeric pdr
2 tsp red chilli pdr
1 tsp coriander pdr
1/2 tsp cumin pdr
Salt to taste
Chopped coriander leaves

for the masala paste:
2 tblsp dry roasted peanuts
2 tblsp dry roasted sesame seeds/ til
3 tblsp dry or fresh coconut roasted till light brown
Grind the above roasted ingredients into a fine paste

PROCEDURE:

  • Wash and wipe the bhindis,cut the ends and cut into 2 inch pieces
  • In a pan heat 1 tsp oil add the cut bhindis with 1/2 tsp salt and saute till it is cooked
  • Transfer it in a bowl,add the remaining oil in the same pan,put mustard
  • Once the mustard starts crackling,add curry leaves ,chopped onions and sautet till it becomes transparent
  • Add the masala paste and all the spice powders one by one
  • Saute for 2 mins,add tamarind paste,salt to taste and 1/2 cup water
  • Add the roasted bhindisa and let it boil for 5 mins
  • Check for the salt and turn off the flame,garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rotis
